The inmates of Tihar jail are soon going to show their musical talent in a showcase named Tihar Idol.
An initiative undertaken by the production house RVP Directors, an audition will soon be conducted within the premises of the jail for singers, songwriters and musicians as well.
An album will then be released post the show which will encompass genres ranging from Hindi oldies, Punjabi pop and even devotional songs. The album shall have 32 songs and studio facilities and sound recording is going to be looked into by RVP. They have joined hands with Music One to set up a studio in jail no 3. A portion of the sales of the music album will be directed towards the jail’s welfare fund.
The idea was conceptualized after the production house learnt about the launch of sarangi maestro Kamal Sabri’s album launch that took place in the jail a couple of month’s ago.
The competition will span a period of three months. Candidates will be selected for grooming by the judges for the final round. Each jail already has a music room and there are about 100 good singers among the under trials and convicts, who will be given first preference in the auditions.
