What: Celebrate Bandra presents ‘Soulmate’
When: 23rd November, 2011
Where: Bandra Fort Amphitheater.
Inspite of an half an hour delay, Soulmate’s gig at Bandra Fort amphitheatre was worth the wait – literally. As soon as the band took the stage, the audience cheered saying, “Happy Birthday Tipriti!” – there you go – what better way could it be for the band to celebrate their lead vocalists’s birthday than with a gung – ho audience and some great music in an open – air venue by Bandra Bandstand.
The famous band from Shillong consisting of Rudy Wallang and Tipriti Kharbangar has released two albums till now, namely ‘Shillong’ and ‘Moving On’. Both were released on blueFROG records in 2009 and now, the band has been touring for two months consecutively before their much – needed sabbatical which is coming up now. As Rudy rightly put it, “This is the last leg of our tour and I am delighted that it is taking place in Bandra!”
The band started off primarily with instrumental and solo pieces which Rudy rightly burned the stage to with his signature style of playing around with the volume knob on the guitar. Fifteen minutes or so into the session and Tipriti got into her usual avatar and geared up with some familiar Soulmate pieces such as ‘Set Me Free’ ‘Cup of Tea’ ‘Come ‘Round My House’ ‘Moving On’ ‘My Baby’ and so on.
What took the cake however was Rudy’s one man act which enthralled the audiences. One could actually hear some Soulmate loyalists humming their hits and singing along in the audiences. With an approximate crowd of 500 – odd people one can very well call Soulmate the best band around right now. Bandra sure had a great evening, a great manner to celebrate
